Your First Visit
Our first opportunity to meet with you will be your consultation appointment. There is no charge for this visit, and no obligation to begin treatment. You will be asked to complete a medical and dental history, then you will be escorted to the consultation room where you will meet with Dr. Dager. Before leaving our office, you can expect:
- A complete orthodontic evaluation
- An explanation of your specific orthodontic needs
- A thorough description of your proposed orthodontic treatment
- An estimate of treatment time
- An estimate of treatment costs
It may be helpful for you to provide us with your insurance information prior to your first appointment if you wish to receive the most accurate estimate of your treatment costs. This information is used ONLY to help calculate your cost of treatment, and no charges are submitted to your insurance company for the consultation. We set aside an hour for this appointment in order to give you an opportunity to have all of your questions answered, though rarely is the full hour needed. Again, the consultation appointment is free.
The Records Appointment
If orthodontic treatment is indicated, your next step would be to have your records taken. Orthodontic records consist of a series of photographs, x-rays, and dental impressions for study models. If you wish and if time allows, this can be completed at your first visit. The records appointment usually lasts about 30 minutes.
So, what happens next? We can't tell you yet! It's not that it's a big secret...it's that it all depends on the treatment that is needed. If Dr. Dager determines that you have dental work that needs to be completed prior to beginning orthodontic treatment, he will refer you to your dentist at this time. If you don't have a general dentist that you routinely see, please let us know, as we work with many dentists in the area and would be happy to give you a referral! If you are ready to begin treatment, we may place separators or simply set up your bonding appointment to have your braces placed on your teeth.
We offer a number of methods to improve your smile (including Invisalign, removable and functional appliances, etc.) but the majority of our patients are treated with braces. Having the braces put on is painless, and takes between 1-2 hours depending on how many teeth will be receiving braces at the appointment. We offer both standard metal braces, as well as more esthetic options such as porcelain braces that are less noticeable. Be sure to ask us about your options!
